Government Amends Provisions on Procedures for Naturalization, Termination and Reacquisition of Indonesian Citizenship

In an effort to ensure greater legal certainty in relation to Indonesian citizenship, the government has issued Regulation No. 21 of 2022 (“Amendment”), which amends the current Regulation of the Government No. 2 of 2007  on Procedures for the Acquisition, Termination, Revocation and Reacquisition of Indonesian Citizenship (“Regulation 2/2007”).

In essence, the changes that have been introduced under the Amendment deal with matters pertaining to naturalization, as well as procedures for the reporting of the termination and reacquisition of Indonesian citizenship, specifically as they relate to Law No. 12 of 2006 on Citizenship of the Republic of Indonesia (“Citizenship Law”).
