Govt. to Renew Provisions Due to Regional Difficulties in Increasing Green Open Spaces

Regional and urban development that is carried out continuously without any consideration for environmental factors may lead to imbalances within ecosystems, including the frequent occurrence of floods, air pollution, fires and so forth. As such, regional and urban areas should be developed sustainably. One of the most important aspects in this regard is the establishment of Green Open Spaces (Ruang Terbuka Hijau – “RTH”).[1]

However, many regional governments across Indonesia are currently facing difficulties in fulfilling the 20% public RTH and 10% private RTH targets within their regions.[2] For example, the city of Solo is currently challenged in terms of its plan to increase its RTH due to a lack of potential areas. At this moment, the level of public RTH in Solo amounts to approximately 355.23 hectares or 7.6% of its total area, while the level of private RTH within the city amounts to approximately 442.41 hectares or 9.47% of its total area.[3]
