BPJS Kesehatan Classes 1,2 and 3 to Be Replaced with Standard Inpatient Class System (KRIS)

President Joko Widodo has officially issued Regulation of the President No. 59 of 2024 on the Third Amendment to Regulation of the President No. 82 of 2018 on Health Insurance, which introduces the Standard Inpatient Class System (Kelas Rawat Inap Standar – "KRIS") that it is expected that hospitals will be required to implement in cooperation with the Social Security Agency for Health (Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Sosial Kesehatan – "BPJS Kesehatan") by no later than 30 June 2025. Moreover, further provisions that specifically address benefits, tariffs and fees will be determined by no later than 1 July 2025.
The implementation of the KRIS system is set to replace the current Social Security Agency for Health BPJS Kesehatan system of Classes 1, 2 and 3. The new Regulation now requires all treatment room facilities that are used for KRIS-based services to meet certain criteria, including: 1) Building components must not have high levels of porosity; 2) Must have good air ventilation; 3) Rooms must be well lit; 4) Must have bed equipment; and 5) Bathrooms must meet accessibility standards.
