The Government is currently preparing a Draft Regulation of the President on Artificial Intelligence Ethics (“Draft Regulation”). The Draft Regulation is being prepared as Indonesia does not yet have national and systematic ethical provisions governing the principles, values, and governance of artificial intelligence ethics.[1] If enacted, it must be observed as a guideline by users, sector actors, ministries/institutions, and other stakeholders in developing, operating, and using artificial intelligence.[2]
The Draft Regulation provides a two-year transition period from its entry into force for ministries/institutions and sector actors to prepare for the implementation of artificial intelligence ethics.[3] Any ministry/institution that has adopted artificial intelligence ethics before the Draft Regulation takes effect is required to conform such ethics to the provisions of the Draft Regulation within two years of its entry into force.[4]
