Overview
Public concern over the protection of Indonesia’s younger citizens from the various risks associated with the accessing of online electronic systems has grown significantly in recent years. According to the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (“Ministry”), recent data indicate that 48% of internet users in Indonesia are children under 18 years of age (“Children”), with 80% of them clocking in online for an average of seven hours a day.[1]
This high level of internet usage among Children makes them particularly susceptible to cyberbullying and inappropriate content, including pornography, violence and hate speech. Moreover, the growing and unsupervised use of Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) poses risks of various negative behavioral and psychological effects that may be experienced by Children, such as desensitization, addiction and distorted views of reality.[2]
