As Indonesia continues with its efforts to develop and implement its national criminal justice system through the application of a restorative justice approach[1] that prioritizes victim recovery instead of more punitive forms of justice, the Supreme Court (Mahkamah Agung – “MA”) has finally introduced Regulation No. 1 of 2024 on Guidelines for the Processing of Criminal Cases Based on Restorative Justice (“Regulation 1/2024”), which has been in force since 7 May 2024.[2]
