OJK Set to Strengthen Consumer Protection of Financing Companies During 2024 - 2028 Period

  • The Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan – "OJK") has launched the Roadmap for the Development and Strengthening of Financing Companies 2024 - 2028 ("Roadmap") in an effort to create a healthy, strong, integrated and inclusive financing industry that is capable of adapting to technological developments, as well as contributing to sustainable economic growth.
  • According to the Chief of the OJK’s Board of Commissioners, Mahendra Siregar, the Roadmap is set to become an integral part of OJK policy on the strengthening and development of the financial services sector and education relating to consumer protection. Meanwhile, the Chief Executive for the Supervision of Financing Institutions, Venture Capital Companies, Microfinance Institutions and Other Financial Services Institutions, Agusman, has stated that the new Roadmap will succeed if all relevant stakeholders working within the financial industry are committed to its implementation.
  • The Roadmap contains a set of guidelines for industrial actors that are aimed at encouraging financing companies to make a significant contribution to the national economy. One of the programs under the new guidelines deals with the issue of consumer protection, which is being prioritized within the financial services sector. Agusman has also stated that the OJK is currently preparing a Draft Regulation on the Implementing Regulation to Law No. 4 of 2023 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector, which will specifically address financing companies. The hope is that stakeholders and the general public will provide input to the Draft Regulation.
