Overview
In terms of efforts to fight and eradicate corruption, Indonesia is sadly in a declining trend as the Corruption Perception Index (CPI), as issued by Transparency International (TI), shows that Indonesia is currently ranked 110th rank out of 180 countries worldwide with a total score of 34. This is four points lower than last year’s score.[1] Among the challenges that are contributing to the overall difficulty in eradicating corruption is the lack of ability for the criminal justice system to pursue assets that are suspected of deriving from criminal acts and that have caused financial losses to the state (“Assets”) but that may not be explicitly proven during relevant legal proceedings.[2]
