Indonesia’s House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat – “DPR”) has finally passed the Bill on Personal Data Protection (“PDP Bill”), which is set to become the umbrella legal framework for the protection of Personal Data (“Data”) within Indonesia.^[1] In the wake of the passing of the PDP Bill, the DPR Chairman, Puan Maharani, along with Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Johnny G. Plate, have described the passing of the PDP Bill as an important milestone in terms of the protection of Data within Indonesia and, once it is promulgated, is expected to protect Indonesian citizens from various types of digital crimes and provide greater legal certainty in relation to citizens’ Data.^[2]
