Through the issuance of Regulation of the Government No. 37 of 2021 (“Regulation 37/2021”),[1] the Indonesian Government has now set out the primary regulatory framework for the organization of the unemployment insurance (jaminan kehilangan pekerjaan – “JKP”) program. In essence, the JKP program is a new program that is organized by the central government and the Social Security Agency for Employment (Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Sosial - “BPJS Ketenagakerjaan”) and guarantees that workers who have been laid off can obtain certain benefits in the form of cash payments, access to job-market information and employment training.[2]
