- Through a recent limited meeting, the Indonesian Government has decided to lower the price of industrial gas to 6 USD per Million British Thermal Unit (MMBTU) starting from 1 April 2020.
- This new price essentially applies for several industries set under Regulation of the President No. 40 of 2016 on Determination of Natural Gas Price, specifically: fertilizer, petrochemical, oleochemical, steel, ceramic, glass and rubber gloves industries. However, the Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartanto, revealed that there is a plan to revise this regulation in order to expand the scope of recipients that can benefit from the decrease of the industrial gas, such as PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara and power plant generators.
- Mr. Hartanto further revealed that, in addition to the decreased industrial gas price, Indonesian Government also plans for export and import acceleration as the second economic stimulus package on National Logistic Ecosystem (“NLE”).
- With due regard to this plan, Mr. Hartanto shared that President Joko Widodo has urged for simplification of unnecessary and redundant processes in order to reduce logistic costs to 17%, as well as integration of data from ministries and non-ministerial institutions involved in the process. In addition, the President has also requested for the supervision to involve the Corruption Eradication Commission.
- The NLE outlet itself is expected to fall under the authority of Directorate General of Customs and Excise and to be launched within the next four months. (setkab.go.id)
