The Government of Jakarta has recognized that the uncontrolled use of surface water will ultimately lead to a drop not only in the amount of surface water available but also in the quality of the remaining surface water. With this in mind the Governor of Jakarta has issued Regulation No. 65 of 2007 to guarantee the quantity and quality of the surface water available and simultaneously take the necessary measures to ensure the conservation of what is considered to be a vital water resource.
Simply, all incorporated bodies and companies who draw from the surface water supply must have a permit to do so and may only take the volume of water stipulated in their respective permit. The minimum amount of surface water per month is 50 m3. If the volume of surface water available drops to unsustainable levels then the Government of Jakarta will revisit the Regulation and make the necessary amendments.
