New Mangrove Planning Framework Introduced: 30-Year Management Plans Set to Reclassify Certain Commercial Areas as Protected Zones

The Minister of Environment/Head of the Environmental Control Agency (“Minister”) has issued Regulation No. 8 of 2026  (“Regulation 8/2026”) on Procedures for the Stipulation of and Changes to Mangrove Ecosystem Functions, the Formulation and Stipulation of and Changes to the Master Plan for the Mangrove Landscape Unit (Kesatuan Lanskap Mangrove – “KLM”),[1] as Well as the Formulation and Stipulation of and Changes to the Mangrove Ecosystem Protection and Management Plan (Rencana Perlindungan dan Pengelolaan Ekosistem Mangrove - “RPPEM”).
