Overview
The Draft Bill of 2026 on Copyright (“Draft Bill 2026”),[1] which is currently being discussed by Indonesia’s House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat – “DPR”), was approved as a DPR-initiated bill during the 16th Plenary Session of the DPR for the Fourth Sitting Period of the 2025 – 2026 Session Year.[2] Beyond the strengthening of protections for music-related works, the Draft Bill 2026 also addresses the protection of journalistic works amid rapid developments in emerging digital technologies. In this regard, and according to the Speaker of the DPR, enhanced protection for journalistic works is one of the key issues addressed under the framework of the Draft Bill 2026.[3]
