ISPO Expanded Beyond Plantations: Palm Oil Bioenergy Businesses Must Comply with Mandatory Certification by 20 March 2027

The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (“Minister”) recently issued Regulation No. 3 of 2026 (“Regulation 3/2026”) on Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (“ISPO”) Certification for Palm Oil Bioenergy Businesses, which officially came into force on 22 January 2026. As its title suggests, Regulation 3/2026 outlines a new mandatory ISPO Certification regime that will apply to all palm oil bioenergy companies (“Bioenergy Companies”), specifically companies that produce biofuels, biomass and/or biogas from palm oil.[1]
