Indonesian Anti-Scam Center Officially Launched

  • The Chief of the Financial Services Authority’s (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan – “OJK”) Board of Commissioners, Mahendra Siregar (“Chief Commissioner”), has affirmed that the OJK, along with the members of the Task Force for the Eradication of Illegal Financial Activities (Satuan Tugas Pemberantasan Aktivitas Keuangan Ilegal – “Satgas Pasti”), recently completed the soft launch of the Indonesian Anti-Scam Center (“IASC”). The Chief Commissioner explained that, as its name suggests, the IASC will now serve as a coordination forum for stakeholders operating within the financial services sector that should help to swiftly mitigate any scams that emerge within the sector.
  • In his statement, the Chief Commissioner went on to explain that the IASC has been established in response to growing instances of fraudulent activity within the financial services sector, while the IASC is expected to be able to facilitate a number of anti-scam measures, including: 1) Transaction delays and account blocking related to fraud; 2) Identification of parties involved in acts of fraud; 3) Initiatives aimed at the recovery of remaining funds for victims; and 4) Pursuing legal actions in response to unlawful activities.
  • In its current formulation, the IASC is being supported by associations operating within the banking industry and e-commerce sectors, as well as by various payment service providers. Moreover, in terms of the recently announced soft launch, 79 banks have now joined the initiative, while further developments will continue to expand the program in the future.
  • Through the establishment of the IASC, any victims of fraud or scam-related activities that occur within the financial services sector may report said incidents enclosing relevant supporting documents via the official IASC website, which can be found at: http://iasc.ojk.go.id. Moreover, victims of fraud or scams within the financial services sector may also report scams to their financial service providers, while reports will be further coordinated through the IASC in terms of any follow-up measures that are decided upon.
