- The Director-General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources ("Ministry"), Eniya Listiani Dewi ("Director-General"), has affirmed that the government is planning to further simplify the period required to process geothermal business licenses from the currently applicable 18 months to just to five business days.
- Referencing this forthcoming initiative, the Director-General has stated that the licensing process that will be simplified involves the submission of applications via the Online Single Submission (OSS) system and the elimination of the initial requirement to submit conformity of spatial utilization activities (Kesesuaian Kegiatan Pemanfaatan Ruang – "KKPR") and environmental impact analyses (Analisis Mengenai Dampak Lingkungan Hidup – "AMDAL") documents.
- In his statement, the Director-General also explained that the above-described initiative and its overall goal of simplifying bureaucracy is set to be implemented in the near future, given that deliberations of relevant regulatory frameworks are also currently underway. Moreover, the Director-General has also stated that the government is planning to increase the Internal Rate of Return (IRR) for investments to up to 1.5%, which should ultimately attract further investments and collaborations with domestic geothermal ventures.
- Ultimately, in order to provide a holistic understanding of the nation’s current geothermal business climate, the Ministry has reported that Indonesia’s new and renewable energy potential has been estimated to reach as high as 3,687 gigawatts, which will require optimization so that clean energy can be produced for use by the entire population.
