Ministry of Industry Launched Three Application to Strengthen Batik Craft Industry

  • The Ministry of Industry (“Ministry”) recently launched three applications, which are: 1) Batik and Craft Ecosystem; 2) Syndi-Synthetic Dyes Indexation; and 3) Digital Batik Motif. These applications aim to preserve and strengthen Indonesia’s batik craft industry.
  • Andi Rizaldi, Head of the Standardization and Industrial Services Agency at the Ministry of Industry, stated that these applications were developed by the Center for Standardization and Services of the Handicraft and Batik Industry (Balai Besar Standardisasi dan Pelayanan Jasa Industri Kerajinan dan Batik – “BBSPJIKB”), which are part of broader initiative to uphold the nation’s cultural heritage
  • Reni Yanita, Director General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries at the Ministry, emphasized that in addition to preservation efforts through the three applications, stakeholder collaboration is vital. This collaboration includes raw material suppliers, distributors, government agencies, academics, designers, Small and Medium Industry centers, and other batik industry players.
  • The Ministry also noted that the domestic batik industry has employed around 200,000 workers as of August 2024, spanning 201 industrial centers and 5,946 small and medium industries across 11 provinces, which further emphasise the importance of batik industry for Indonesia. (ANT)
