- The Vice-Chairman of the Legislative Body at Indonesia’s House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat - "DPR"), Ichsan Soelistio, has affirmed that none of the factions at the DPR’s Legislative Body have rejected the forthcoming Draft Bill on the Third Amendment ("Draft Bill") to Law No. 10 of 2009 on Tourism ("Law 10/2009"). The Draft Bill is set for further deliberation during a forthcoming DPR plenary session at the initiative of the DPR.
- According to the Vice-Chairman of Commission X at the DPR, Agustina Wilujeng Pramestuti, the Draft Bill was originally set to replace Law 10/2009, however, the current plan is that it will only amend the prevailing framework. In its current state, the Draft Bill comprises 17 chapters and eliminates three of the chapters that currently feature under Law 10/2009.
- In line with this planned legislation, the Chairman of the Special Committee for the Harmonization of the Draft Bill, Firman Subagyo, has affirmed that in addition to shifting the nature of the Draft Bill to that of an amendment to Law 10/2009, the DPR’s Legislative Body has also revised the Draft Bill to ensure that the Tourism Law framework is in line with currently applicable provisions on the drafting of Laws and Regulations.
- It should also be noted that Ferdiansyah, one of the members of the DPR’s Legislative Body, is urging for various matters to be further detailed under the new framework of the Draft Bill, including: 1) Threshold for parties classified as cultural actors; 2) Digitalization and transformation of tourism human resources; and 3) Ensuring that the national tourism masterplan is in line with the 2024 – 2025 National Medium-Term Development Plan (Rencana Pembangunan Jangka Menengah Nasional/RPJMN).
