Government Commits to Accelerated Development of Indonesias Digital Economy

  • The Indonesian Government is proactively advancing the digital economy as a key driver of the nation’s ongoing transformation. In this regard, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, recently underscored the government’s commitment to sustainable development through digital innovation during the 80th session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. Emphasizing the enhancement of a productive, forward-looking digital ecosystem, special attention is being placed upon the empowerment of micro-, small- and medium-scale enterprises (UMKM) and tech startups, alongside the bolstering of cybersecurity measures. The unveiling of the Digital Economy Development White Paper 2030 outlines a collaborative strategy for shaping of Indonesia’s digital future, with a strong focus being placed on financial inclusion and regulatory refinement as a part of efforts aimed at fostering an inclusive digital society.
  • Indonesia is also harnessing digital innovation through the Pre-Employment Card Program, a government initiative that was originally introduced in order to bolster skills and maintain purchasing power during the COVID-19 crisis. This program, which has reached 18.7 million Indonesians across 38 provinces to date, is not only focusing on skill enhancement but is also supporting broader Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including high-quality education, gender equality, women’s empowerment and poverty reduction. The program has also seen significant participation from women (51%), individuals over 50 (12%) and citizens with disabilities (3%). (ANT)
