Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment Prepares Draft Regulation on Endowment Fund for Quality Tourism

The Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs is currently preparing a Draft Regulation on the Endowment Fund (Dana Abadi) for Quality Tourism, which aims at establishing a high-quality tourism ecosystem that will be based on the following four pillars: 1) The competitiveness of basic infrastructure; 2) Sustainable tourism management; 3) The uniqueness of tourist destinations; 4) High-value tourism services.
According to the Deputy Coordinating Minister for Tourism and Creative Economy, Odo Manuhutu, the results of research conducted by the Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR) have revealed that mangroves comprise some of the tropical region’s most carbon-rich forests as they contain over 1,000 mg of carbon per hectare on average. In addition, efforts to develop quality tourism throughout Indonesia are being manifested through the Proud to Travel to Indonesia (Bangga Berwisata di Indonesia- "BBWI") initiative. The implementation of BBWI is being supported by several policies that encompass: 1) Toll tariff discounts; 2) Tourist visits by rail; 3) The organization of national events through a fully integrated, OSS-based licensing system.
The government is currently targeting 1.25 - 1.50 billion domestic tourist journeys, as well as potential tourism revenue of up to Rp. 3,000 trillion. _(ANT)
