Government Amends Procedure for Submission of Naturalization Applications

The Minister of Law and Human Rights ("Minister") has amended Regulation of the Minister No. 21 of 2020, which sets out the procedure for the submission of naturalization applications and minutes of oath-granting citizenship, through the issuance of the Regulation No. 10 of 2024 ("Regulation 10/2024").
Indonesian citizenship applicant ("Applicant") must now submit their application to an official at a Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights that has a relevant working area that covers the residence of said Applicant ("Official").
The application will then be substantially examined by the new Citizenship Application Examination and Research Team through both a document verification and an interview. All applications that ultimately pass the substantial examination will then be forwarded by the Official to the Minister.
When Regulation 10/2024 comes into force, any children who have the option of choosing between Indonesian or foreign citizenship but who have yet to register for Indonesian citizenship or who have already registered but have yet to choose their citizenship must submit their citizenship applications by 31 May 2024 at the latest.
