Traffic Controls Introduced for Homecoming and Return Journeys During 2024 Eid al-Fitr Holiday Period

  • The government, through the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing and the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps, recently issued Joint Decree No. KP-DRJD 1305, SKB/67/II/2024 and 40/KPTS/Db/2024 on Road Traffic and Ferry Crossing Transportation Arrangements ("Arrangement") During the Eid Al-Fitr 2023/1444 Hijriah Homecoming and Return Period ("Joint Decree"), which has been in force since 5 April 2023.
  • The Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi has stated that the government has already made adequate preparations, in terms of both operations and policy, regarding the control and regulation of transportation during the holiday. These arrangements are being comprehensively handled by various ministries and agencies at the central government and local government levels, as well as by state-owned enterprises and various players operating within the private sector.
  • Budi has also stated, based on the results of a survey conducted by the Transportation Policy Agency (Badan Kebijakan Transportasi - "BKT") and the Ministry of Transportation, that the potential movement of people at the national level during the Lebaran 2024 period was likely to reach 71.7% of the Indonesian population or around 193.6 million people. This figure represents a significant increase over last year’s total of 123.8 million people on the move.
  • The Director-General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, Hendro Sugiatno, has issued a statement affirming that the traffic arrangements organized by the government for the holiday period include restrictions on freight transportation, as well as various one-way and odd-even license plate systems.
