  • The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources has issued Decree No 69.K/MB.01/MEM. B/2024 on the Stipulation of Commodity Types Categorized in the Strategic Mineral Classification (collectively referred to as "Stipulation"), which has been in force since 1 April 2024.
  • A total of 22 mining commodity types have now been classified as strategic minerals, including: 1) Aluminum; 2) Antimony; 3) Iron; 4) Gold; 5) Phosphor; 6) Galena; 7) Cobalt; 8) Magnesium; 9) Platinum; and 10) Zinc.
  • The Stipulation is based upon five criteria, specifically: 1) Minerals that become raw materials for use by strategic industries (e.g. pharmaceuticals, cosmetics products, healthcare devices, auxiliary materials); 2) Minerals that have the potential to be absorbed by the global market through resource dominance and/or reserves; 3) Minerals that make a large contribution to state revenue through their mining; 4) Minerals that make a dominant contribution to the state’s foreign exchange reserves; and/or 5) Minerals that are used in large amounts by strategic industries.
