All Circulated Fresh Foods Will be Required to Comply with Maximum Contamination Limits

  • The National Food Agency (Badan Pangan Nasional/BPN)  is currently preparing a Draft Regulation on Maximum Contamination Limits for Circulated Fresh Foods (collectively referred to as "Contamination Limits"), which, when it comes into force will require all individuals circulating fresh food products within Indonesia to comply with the applicable requirements on Contamination Limits.
  • The Draft Regulation specifically addresses the following types of fresh foods: 1) Fresh foods that may be directly consumed and that have not undergone any processing activities; 2) Fresh foods that have been washed, stripped (dikupas), frozen, cut, dried, salted (penggaraman), mixed, ground, dyed (dicelup) and/or coated; or 3) Fresh foods that have not undergone any processing activities and to which food additives have been added. 
  • The following types of contamination are specifically addressed under the Draft Regulation: 1) Heavy metals; 2) Microbes; and 3) Mycotoxins. Details of each Contamination Limit are comprehensively set out under the Appendix to the Draft Regulation.
