Soekarno-Hatta Airport Customs-and-Excise Office Set to Limit Entry of Permitted Hand-Carry Goods from Overseas

The Head of the Customs-and-Excise Office at Soekarno-Hatta Airport ("Customs Office"), Gatot Sugeng Wibowo, has affirmed that the Customs Office is set to enforce various new import restrictions, as outlined under Regulation of the Minister of Trade No. 36 of 2023 on Import Policy and Provisions (“Regulation 36/2023”), which has been in force since 10 March 2024.
Regulation 36/2023 has revised the list of commodities that will now be subject to the new border import supervision mechanism, in comparison with the previous post-border import supervision mechanism. Gatot has also stated that the enforcement of said framework will affect imports of goods such as hand-carry luggage from overseas. In this regard, the Gatot has affirmed that the amounts of five types of hand-carry goods that are permitted to enter Indonesia will now be subject to the following limitations:
