2024 National Public Holiday Nomenclature Revised

On September 2023, the Minister of Religious Affairs, the Minister of Manpower and the Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (collectively referred to as "Ministers") issued Joint Decree No. 855, 3, 4 of 2023 on National Public Holidays and Joint Leave for 2024 ("Joint Decree"), which sets out the dates of various national public holidays and joint leave for 2024. It should be noted that national holidays and joint leave that are outlined under the Joint Decree were summarized in the following edition of Daily Updates: “Govt. Sets National Public Holidays and Joint Leave for 2024”.
While no changes have been made to the applicable dates for the 2024 national public holidays and joint leave, as originally outlined under the Joint Decree, the Ministers have now decided to revise the applicable nomenclature for certain national holidays that feature under the Joint Decree through the issuance of Joint Decree No. 236, 1, 2 of 2024 ("Amendment"), which has been in force since 26 February 2024.
As comprehensively outlined under the Appendix to the Amendment, the adjusted nomenclature for certain national public holidays under the Amendment breaks down as follows: 1) Good Friday (Friday, 29 March); 2) Easter Day (Sunday, 31 March); 3) Ascension Day (Thursday, 9 May); 4) Islamic New Year 1446 (Sunday, 7 July); 5) Independence Day (Saturday, 17 August); and 6) Christmas Day (Wednesday, 25 December).
