Coordinating Minister Airlangga Ensures There Will Be No Increase in Electricity and Oil-Fuel Tariffs

  • The Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, has confirmed that there will be no increase in the applicable electricity and oil-fuel tariffs before June 2024. This decision will ultimately lead to the State Budget Deficit target rising to 2.29% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as the subsidies that are required to prevent an increase in electricity and fuel prices will involve the allocation of larger budgets to PT Pertamina and PT Pembangkit Listrik Nasional (PT PLN). These additional allocations will be sourced from either the Remaining Budget Balance or by raising the State Budget deficit.
  • The raising of the State Budget Deficit is also being contributed to by the addition of Rp. 14 trillion in fertilizer subsidies along with direct cash assistance (bantuan langsung tunai) under the Food Risk Mitigation program.  This increase in the subsidy ceiling is necessary to maintain rice production levels amid the threat of El Nino. The 2024 State Budget deficit has been agreed at Rp. 522.82 trillion, which represents an increase in the range of 2.29% of GDP. (ANT)
