Government Emphasizes Implementation of ESG Principles During Development of Environment and Forestry Sector

In order to respond to the many complex environmental, social and economic challenges that are associated with the development of the environment and forestry sector, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry ("Ministry") is emphasizing the implementation of the value of sustainability in relation to Environmental, Social and Governance ("ESG") principles.
The government is implementing the ESG principles through various policy instruments that encompass: 1) Development of the forestry sector through various indicators in an effort to achieve a historic low in the rate of deforestation; 2) Utilization of forests under the Multi-Forestry Business scheme; 3) Public communities becoming holders of access rights for forest use through the implementation of social forestry schemes; and so forth.
The Ministry is emphasizing that ESG principles will not only be implemented by government institutions but will also be implemented by companies and business actors operating within the private sector through the integration of economic and social goals that take account of environmental impacts. This should hopefully increase the competitiveness and profitability of companies. _(ANT)
