BI Changes Overnight Interbank Money Market Interest Rate Nomenclature to BI Rate

  • Bank Indonesia (“BI”) had previously utilized the term BI Seven-Day (Reverse) Repo Rate as its applicable overnight interbank money market interest rate policy ("Overnight Interest Rate") with the ultimate goal of maintaining monetary stability. This term featured under Regulation of BI No. 22/14/PBI/2020 on Monetary Operations, as amended several times, most recently through the issuance of Regulation of BI No. 13 of 2023 (collectively referred to as "Regulation 14/2020").
  • However, BI has now decided to change the nomenclature associated with the above Overnight Interest Rate from the BI Seven-Day (Reverse) Repo Rate to the BI Rate through the issuance of Regulation No. 15 of 2023 as the Third Amendment to Regulation 14/2020 ("Third Amendment"), which has been in force since 21 December 2023.
  • Consequent to this nomenclature change, BI frameworks that utilized the term BI Seven-Day (Reverse) Repo Rate prior to the enforcement of the Third Amendment will now use the term BI Rate.
