BPOM Stipulates List of 538 Food and Drug Products Subject to Restricted Entry into Indonesian Territory

  • The National Agency of Drug and Food Control (Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan - "BPOM") has issued Decree No. 456 of 2023 ("Decree 456/2023") on the List of Food and Drug Products Subject to Restricted Entry into Indonesian Territory ("List of Food and Drug Products"), which is set to come into force on 3 December 2023.
  • Decree 456/2023 sets out a List of Food and Drug Products in accordance with the Harmonized System codes (HS Codes) that are comprehensively elaborated upon in the Appendices to this Decree. The List of Food and Drug Products has been stipulated in an effort to improve effective supervision within customs-and-excise areas (border) and outside of customs-and-excise areas (post-border).
  • A List of Food and Drug Products that comprises 538 products has been divided into 122 lists for customs-and-excise areas (border), which break down as follows: 1) Drugs: 72 lists; 2) Natural drugs: eight lists; 3) Cosmetics: 33 lists; 4) Health supplements: seven lists; 5) Quasi-drugs: two lists. Meanwhile, 416 lists now apply to areas outside of customs-and-excise areas (post-border) for food products.
