Overview

On 26 September 2023, the Indonesian Carbon Exchange (“IDXCarbon”) was officially launched by President Joko Widodo.[1] Business actors from the banking sector participated in the launch through the purchase of the carbon units from Lahendong Project Unit 5 and Unit 6 hosted by PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGEO). The Director of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (Bursa Efek Indonesia – “BEI”) stated that the high demand for purchases of carbon units was in line with the stated objective of achieving a green banking sector. Aside from the banking sector, various other business actors also participated in the launch of IDXCarbon, including Sekuritas, PT BRI Danareksa Sekuritas, PT CarbonX Bumi Harmoni, PT MMS Group Indonesia, PT Multi Optimal Riset dan Edukasi, PT Pamapersada Nusantara, PT Pelita Air Service, PT Pertamina Hulu Energi and PT Pertamina Patra Niaga.[2]
