Zero-Percent Tariff on Pineapple and Banana Exports Targeted

  • The Minister of Trade (Minister”), Zulkifli Hasan, is targeting the implementation of a zero-percent import-duty tariff for exports of pineapple and banana commodities, which is set to be implemented immediately. However, the Minister has also stated that several obstacles remain regarding the implementation of trade in these commodities with various countries, one of which is the existence of different import-duty rates for each country.
  • In an effort to expand the application of the zero-percent import duty tariff for exports of pineapple and banana commodities, the government is cooperating with various countries in order to accelerate the completion of the Indonesia - European Union Comprehensive Partnership Agreement (“IEU CEPA”) negotiations.
  • Based on data issued by the Central Bureau of Statistics (Badan Pusat Statistik – “BPS”), pineapples and bananas are trade mainstays for the province of Lampung, while the province’s total pineapple production during 2022 amounted to 8,617,058 quintals, an increase over the previous year’s output of only 7,058,833 quintals.
