Formation of TPV-PRG for Plant Variety Releases Adjusted

The Minister of Agriculture ("Minister") has issued Regulation No. 23 of 2023 ("Amendment"), which amends Regulation of the Minister No. 38 of 2019 on Releases of Plant Varieties ("Regulation 38/2019"), which has been in force since 16 May 2023.
The Amendment has adjusted the composition of the Evaluation Team for Genetically Engineered Product Varieties (Tim Penilai Varietas Produk Rekayasa Genetik – "TPV-PRG"). While the TPV-PRG will continue to consist of the head, secretary and members, the Amendment affirms that the membership will now comprise the following: 1) High pratama officials ("Officials") under the Ministry of Agriculture ("Ministry") in relation to the seeding function; 2) Officials under the Ministry in relation to the biotechnology function; 3) Officials at the Ministry in relation to the legal function; and 4) Experts in genetically engineered plants varieties.
By way of comparison, Regulation 38/2019 previously specified the nomenclature and types of experts that were included in the TPV-PRG membership.
