Government Urges More Electric-Vehicle Charging Stations and Priority Parking Spots in Shopping Centers

The previous issuance of Regulation of President No. 55 of 2019 on the Acceleration of the Battery-Powered Electric-Motor Vehicle for Road Transportation Program (“Regulation 55/2019”) has resulted in the government issuing various legal frameworks that have been introduced in order to boost the uptake of Battery-Power Electric Vehicles (“BEV”) across Indonesia.[1] The latest legal framework that addresses these issues is Circular of the Minister of Trade No. 03 of 2023 on the Provision of Public Electric-Vehicle Charging Stations and Priority Parking Spots for Battery-Power Electric Vehicles in Shopping Centers (“Circular 3/2023”), which aims to support and expedite the BEV-based transportation framework program (“Program”) originally addressed under Regulation 55/2019.[2]
