Indonesia Prioritizes Renewable Energy and LCT Transitions for ASEAN

The Director of the ASEAN Economic Partnership at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Berlianto Simorangkir, has set out Indonesia's vision for the post-2025 ASEAN, which breaks down as follows: 1) Transition to clean and renewable sources of energy through the development of electrical ecosystems; 2) Maintenance of financial and economic stability through local currency transactions (“LCT”); and 3) Strengthening of regional integration through regional payment connectivity mechanisms.
From 9 - 11 May 2023, the Heads of the ASEAN member states will be attending the 42nd Asean Summit in Labuan Bajo, West Nusa Tenggara (“NTT”) in order to discuss the design of the post-2025 ASEAN vision towards 2045 based on six core elements of the vision companion document, specifically: 1) Action oriented; 2) Sustainable; 3) Enterprising, bold and innovative, 4) Adaptable and pro-active; 5) Nimble and resilient; and 6) Inclusive, participatory and collaborative.
As a sign of the region’s trust in Indonesia’s ability to navigate inclusive and sustainable growth across the ASEAN region during the post-pandemic global recovery, Indonesia is chairing ASEAN during the 1 Jan - 31 December 2023 period. (AN)
