Overview
Whenever settling disputes of a commercial nature, the long and arduous process of court litigation is often disliked by business actors who instead like to prioritize the speedy and confidential settlement processes that are offered through arbitration. This need for efficient arbitration processes within Indonesia is the main reason why the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kamar Dagang dan Industri/KADIN) decided to establish the Indonesian National Arbitration Board (Badan Arbitrase Nasional Indonesia – “BANI”) back in 1977. Today, BANI is one of Indonesia's leading arbitration institutions and hosts more than 160 professional arbitrators, both Indonesian and foreign, and has also established branch offices across seven other major Indonesian cities in addition to Jakarta.[1] BANI also claims to have resolved over 1000 business disputes since its inception.[2]
