Overview
The issue of bullying and cyberbullying is of increasing global concern given the ever-growing figures that are associated with this type of crime. Based upon data produced by the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (Komisi Perlindungan Anak Indonesia – “KPAI”), 6,519 cases of violence against children in Indonesia were recorded in 2020. This number declined slightly during the following year to 5,953, possibly as a result of the various health measures that were introduced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.[1] However, it should be noted that these numbers only reflect bullying that takes the form of violence against children, when in fact there is a whole range of other non-violent acts that also constitutes bullying. In addition, the victims of bullying vary significantly in terms of their ages, and in this regard, acts of bullying are not solely perpetrated against minors.
