Draft Bill on Natural Resources Management System Enters Inventory Phase

  • The Draft Bill on the Natural Resources Management System ("Draft Bill") has now entered the material inventory phase, which will address the management of natural resources across various national regions. The material inventory is aiming to provide a full and critical overview of the current state of play that will specifically address regional stakeholders and the utilization of natural resources within their respective regions. One of the matters featured under the Draft Bill concerns the need to balance any profit-sharing funds that are generated through natural resources.
  • Fahira Idris, one of the committee members responsible for the drafting of legal instruments at Indonesia’s House of Representatives, has stated that the management of the country’s natural resources requires adjustment due to the fact that the existing legal instruments are no longer in line with social developments and global dynamics.
  • Mrs. Idris has also noted that various regions in possession of an abundance of natural resources have started to voice concerns regarding the profit-sharing of funds deriving from said natural resources. In this regard, Indonesia’s various regions are expecting any such profit sharing to prioritize their regional interests and to be carried out on a proportional basis in order to ensure regional prosperity.
