Full Implementation of Electric Vehicles by Government Agencies to Become Effective in 2023

  • Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, has reaffirmed that government agencies at the central and regional levels should prepare the funding required in order to procure electric vehicles for use as official vehicles by 2023. Luhut stated that all official vehicles that are procured during 2023 should be entirely electric and that no further vehicles with internal combustion engines should be purchased.
  • Battery-powered electric vehicles have already begun to be utilized by government agencies during 2022. However, as there are only two months of the year remaining, the utilization of procured electric vehicles will be subject to full implementation next year.
  • Previously, the accelerated utilization of electric vehicles within the government sector was regulated under Instruction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia No. 7 of 2022 on the Use of Battery-Powered Electric Vehicles as Official Operational Vehicles and/or Official Vehicles Used by Officials of Central Government and Regional Government Institutions. This instruction was issued in order to create government agencies that would become role models for the utilization of electric vehicles across different regions of the country. (ANT)
