Draft Bill on the Conservation of Natural Biological Resources and Their Ecosystems: New Obligations and Sanctions Introduced

Indonesia’s House of Representatives has approved the Draft Bill on the Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and Their Ecosystems (“Draft Bill”) as a legislative product introduced at its own initiative. The majority of the House’s factions believe that Law No. 5 of 1990 (“Law 5/1990”), as the current law that addresses similar conservation-related matters, is now obsolete and thus unable to accommodate current requirements as regards the organization of conservation.[1] Ultimately, when the Draft Bill is promulgated, it will repeal and replace Law 5/1990.[2]
