Overview

In the wake of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (“COVID-19”) pandemic, the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (“Minister”) has provided three curriculum options that can be implemented by educational units in the classroom.[1] These three curriculum choices encompass the 2013 Curriculum (“K13”), the Emergency Curriculum and the Prototype Curriculum. The K13 curriculum was established back in 2013 and has been implemented by nearly all educational units across Indonesia since 2018.[2] Meanwhile, the Emergency Curriculum was newly introduced in 2020 in order to serve as a simplified version of the K13 and to adjust the education system to the prevailing conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic.[3] The most recently introduced curriculum is the Prototype Curriculum, which represents an attempt to reboot the country’s education system through project-based learning.[4]
