Overview
During the past few weeks, the name Indra Kenz has been cropping up frequently in local Indonesian news reports and media outlets. Kenz is a public figure and influencer who is popularly known as “Crazy Rich Medan” and who is now suspected of being at the center of a fraud and money-laundering operation that has been run under the guise of a binary option trading platform known as Binomo. Kenz, who has been acting as an affiliate in order to promote and attract people to invest in the Binomo platform, was recently reported by one of Binomo’s alleged victims after a Rp. 50 million investments in the trading platform ultimately resulted in the party in question sustaining losses amounting to millions of rupiah. This report led to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police (“Bareskrim Polri”) initiating an investigation into Kenz in relation to the crimes of fraud and money laundering.[1] As a result of this investigation, Kenz is now facing a potential 20-year prison sentence.[2]
