- The Minister of Transportation recently issued Circular No. 15 of 2022 ("Circular 15/2022"), which updates the most recent guidelines for international sea travel during the Corona Virus Disease 2019 ("COVID-19") pandemic and which have been in force since 17 February 2022.
- While no changes have been made in terms of the overall health protocols and flight requirements that apply to international travelers, Circular 15/2022 has now introduced a new provision that addresses entry points and has also adjusted the quarantine periods for travelers who have received booster vaccines.
- Previously, international sea travelers were only permitted to enter the country through the ports of Batam, Tanjung Pinang and Nunukan. Circular 15/2022 has now expanded this list by allowing international sea travelers to enter Indonesia via the ports of Tanjung Benoa in Bali and Bintan in the Riau Islands. However, international travelers looking to enter the country through Tanjung Benoa, Batam and Bintan are now only permitted to enter through the travel-bubble mechanism that was recently introduced under the relevant regulations.
- Furthermore, Circular 15/2022 also sets the following quarantine requirements for international travelers: 1) Travelers who have received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine: 7 x 24 hours; 2) Travelers who have received a second dose of COVID-19 vaccine: 5 x 24 hours; and 3) Travelers who have received a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine: 3 x 24 hours.
- Circular 15/2022 has been in force since 17 February 2022.
