- The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (“Ministry”) is set to implement a measurable quota-based fishing policy in an effort to boost the economic potential of Indonesia’s marine resources in line with the implementation of the blue economic program. The revised fishing policy will be rolled out during the course of 2022 in an effort to boost the economic potential of the country’s various regions.
- The new quota-based fishing policy will be implemented across six separate zones, which encompass four zones that have been allocated for domestic and foreign investors and two zones specifically aimed at domestic investors. In addition, a region will be set aside in zone three for use as a limited fishing zone by traditional fishermen.
- This new policy introduces a new controlled input and output approach, in addition to the quota-based fishing system. As such, the utilization of fish resources will be undertaken in accordance with the relevant carrying capacities, i.e. the number of individuals in a population of a particular species that the resources present in the relevant habitat can support.
