- Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Johnny G. Plate, recently issued a statement affirming that the government is currently in the process of drafting a number of policies that should ultimately lead to improved efficiency and more equitable development in relation to the country’s information and communications technology infrastructure. The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology ("Ministry") is also coordinating local governments in order to ensure that local-government policies support the installation of fiber-optic cables and other infrastructure which will become integral components of the development of information and communications technology across Indonesia.
- Mr. Plate has also stated that the government is currently working to consolidate the telecommunications industry in order to increase efficiency and productivity. It is also hoped that this consolidation will ultimately lead to improved competitiveness at the domestic, regional and global levels.
- The Ministry is aware that digital infrastructure is the enabler of digitalization across all aspects of modern life and also serves as the backbone of the ongoing push towards digital transformation. As a result, the government will continue to work on narrowing the digital divide across society in order to ensure an efficient, productive, non-redundant and competitive telecommunications sector across Indonesia. Currently, the country is already following its Indonesian Digital Road Map for 2021 – 2024, which addresses various matters that relate to the digital ecosystem, including infrastructure. (KOMINFO)
