- Commission XI at the House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat – "DPR") recently approved the Draft Bill on General Provisions and Procedures for Taxation ("Draft Bill"), which will be deliberated at a forthcoming plenary meeting. However, Yustinus Prastowo, a Special Staff Member at the Ministry of Finance, issued a recent statement affirming that the title of the Draft Bill has now been changed to the Draft Bill on the Harmonization of Taxation Regulations.
- Mr. Prastowo went on to reveal that the government and the DPR were committed to supporting the country’s lower social strata through the imposition of a value-added tax (PPN) facility that will apply to the following components: 1) Staple goods; 2) Education services; 3) Healthcare services; and 4) Social services.
- Said Abdullah, Chairman of the Budget Board at the DPR, has also added that the DPR and the government have agreed that the Draft Bill will also include provisions that address carbon tax.
- The DPR and the government have also agreed to allow time for businesses and industry to adjust to the implementation of the new carbon tax, as addressed under the Draft Bill. (ANT)
