DPR Urges Government to Prepare Draft Bill on ASEAN Agreement on Electronic Commerce

Evita Nursanty, a member of Commission VI at the House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat – "DPR"), has urged the government to commence preparations of a Draft Bill on the ASEAN Agreement on Electronic Commerce ("Draft Bill"). Mrs. Nursanty has also asserted that in order to gain the maximum benefit from this trade agreement, it will be important for Indonesia to ensure that it is fully up to speed with the most recent technological developments, including artificial intelligence, blockchain technologies and financial technologies.
In her statement, Mrs. Nursanty went on to assert that the Draft Bill would represent a milestone in terms of the implementation of new technologies across Indonesia. As a result, Mrs. Nursanty hopes that the government will affirm its strong commitment to personal data protection and to enhancing the security of e-commerce transactions through the preparation of appropriate legal frameworks.
Previously, DPR Commission VI and the government agreed that the Draft Bill would be presented at a plenary session after the completion of level-1 discussion. _(ANT)
