Govt. to Introduce Measures Aimed at Reducing Work Terminations During the COVID-19 Pandemic

  • Given the high potential for employment terminations during the ongoing Corona Virus Disease 2019 ("COVID-19") Pandemic, the government is currently preparing various measures aimed at reducing employee layoffs and helping struggling companies, that’s according to Mr. Dedy Permadi, official spokesman of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.
  • In line with the above-mentioned goals, Mr. Permadi has also stated that the coordinating authority of the current Emergency Public Activity Restrictions (PPKM) has asked the Minister of Manpower to issue a regulation that specifically addresses the work-from-home ("WFH") initiative in an effort to unify the currently diverging perspectives regarding the implementation of WFH which, it is feared, could lead to reduced salaries and reductions in employee numbers.
  • Meanwhile, in order to support the effective implementation of Emergency PPKM, the Minister of Manpower has also issued a circular on the implementation of health protocols within the workplace, which addresses the following areas: 1) Vaccination efforts; 2) Procurement of masks and health equipment; 3) Provision of self-isolation facilities; and 4) Other measures related to the handling of COVID-19 within the workplace.
