- The government’s working committee team (“Government Team”), which is led by the Director-General of Informatics Applications at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (“Ministry”), working with representatives and officials drawn from relevant ministries and institutions, as well as the working committee team of Commission I at the House of Representatives, has recently been engaged in intensive discussions on the Draft Bill on Personal Data Protection (“Draft Bill”).
- Reaffirming its commitment to finalizing a high-quality version of the Draft Bill as soon as possible, the Government Team is currently working on proper and accurate formulations of the substance of a number of important articles contained within the Draft Bill, including several which address the hot-button topic of personal data protection. In this regard, the Government Team has revealed that the organization of personal data protection is the business of the government and should be carried out by the Ministry, which is ultimately answerable to the president.
- The government has pledged that it will adopt a consistent position during discussions of the Draft Bill and will be focusing its attention upon the management and protection of the general public’s personal data, as well as issues pertaining to data sovereignty and national resilience in relation to the Indonesian national interest.
